Interpretations: Two Domains and Two Programs
Before time began, God existed, Genesis 1:1. To understand and know what God did before Genesis 1:1, it is necessary to explore all of His Word to learn all that He revealed of His actions before His creative works in Genesis. King David wrote that before the Lord formed the earth and world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God, Psalms 90:2. In another psalm, the Lord our God dwells on high, who humbles Himself to behold the things that are in heaven and in the earth, Psalms 113:6. The Lord is the one who is worthy to receive glory, honor and power. For He is the one who created all things and for His pleasure they are and were created, Revelation 4:8-11. To express His eternal presence to the elders of Israel, God revealed Himself to Moses as, I AM, Exodus 3:14. Jesus also explained to the crowd in the temple that He was the “I AM,” John 8:54-58. When Jesus prayed His high priestly intercessory prayer, He asked that that the Father glorify Him with the Father’s glory, which the Lord had before the world was, John 17:5. He also expressed the love the Father had for the Son before the foundation of the world, John 17:24. Peter also wrote that the plan for salvation through the precious blood of Christ, was ordained before the foundation of the world began, 1Peter 1:18-20.
At the beginning of creation, Genesis 1:1, the Lord created two domains, heaven and earth. The diagram below shows the two domains, heaven and earth. The earth is in green, because it represents the state of earth when it was without form and was void, Genesis 1:1-2. Within these two domains, things were created that are visible, invisible, thrones, dominions, principalities or powers. All things were created by Him, Christ Jesus, and for Him, Colossians 1:12-16. By the end of the sixth day, God had inhabited the heavenly domain with His angels, who are the principalities and powers Paul referenced in his epistle to the believers in Ephesus, Ephesians 3:10. God also gave dominion to Adam and Woman over the earth, Genesis 1:26-31. He then revealed to John the state of eternity future, after the end of time. In eternity future, there will be a new heaven and earth, similar to what He created, Genesis 1:1. In addition to the original creation will be a New Jerusalem, Revelation 21:1-5.
