2Thessalonians: Introduction

An excellent resource to study the Bible can be found at: www.bible.org, and where there is indepth study materials for 2Thessalonians at Bible.org. The Bible.org is a non-profit organization founded in 1995 for the purpose of developing and distributing sound, evangelical Bible study materials in electronic format.

This book is a continuation of the first letter Paul wrote to the believers at Thessalonica. Certainly, with the love and devotion to these believers, there would be little doubt that Paul would have responded immediately after he received questions on the Lord's return from them. However, the length of time between these two letters is unknown. What can be determined from this letter is that it was:

• For the encouragement as the church was suffering from increased persecution
• To provide further teaching on things that concerned the church
• To address a false teaching that crept into the church by word or letter that was not by Paul’s hand, 2Thessalonians 2
